Exir Halal Asaluyeh Company, established in 2018 as the second development phase of Takht-e-Jamshid Petrochemical, commenced operations in 2021. The company’s primary products are normal hexane and pentane (in various grades). The pentane produced is primarily utilized as a blowing agent in polystyrene production, as well as in detergent and insecticide industries. In this article, we analyze one of the pentane grades produced by this company, known as Normal Pentane-Isopentane.

Normal Pentane-Isopentane Analysis of Exir Halal Asaluyeh Company

S.G 15.6

The S.G (Specific Gravity) parameter expresses the density ratio of the normal pentane-isopentane product (with a composition ratio of 70:30), produced by Exir Halal Asaluyeh Petrochemical, compared to pure water at the standard temperature of 15.6°C. According to the analysis sheet, this value ranges between 0.60 and 0.65, indicating that this compound has approximately 60% to 65% of the density of water. This range demonstrates the lightness and desirable purity of the product.

Normal Pentane and Isopentane

Unlike the other product from this company, which contained 95% normal pentane, in this product, the amount of normal pentane has been reduced to 70%, with the remaining 30% composed of isopentane. Isopentane has a branched structure, and increasing its proportion in the final product results in a higher vapor pressure and, consequently, greater volatility. Additionally, the presence of isopentane reduces the density and viscosity of the final product, making it lighter and more fluid. Ultimately, increasing the isopentane content makes this product particularly suitable as a blowing agent in polystyrene production.

Impurities

According to the analysis sheet for the Normal Pentane-Isopentane (70-30) product from Exir Halal Asaluyeh Petrochemical, precise control of impurities is essential to maintain product quality. These impurities include compounds such as hexane and heavier hydrocarbons (maximum 1000 ppm), cyclopentane (maximum 100 ppm), benzene (maximum 10 ppm), and total sulfur (maximum 1 ppm). Additionally, the water content must be strictly limited to a maximum of 50 ppm to prevent issues like equipment corrosion.

Moreover, the amount of non-volatile matter in this product must not exceed 0.5 mg per 100 ml, reflecting the high purity and quality of the product. Furthermore, the Bromine Index, indicating the presence of unsaturated and reactive compounds, should be less than 10 mg Br per 100 grams. Observing these specified limits for impurities ensures the product performs effectively in sensitive industrial and petrochemical applications.
